Capturing moments and building futures with EDGE Photography! A group of students, along with teacher and photographer Ross Eagles are taking school photos to the next level. What started as a high school photography course is now being turned into a real business. Next year, Mr. Eagles and his photography students will oversee taking school photos for the entire school division.

Through this course, students are gaining hands-on experience in photography while also learning the business side of the industry. They’re exploring studio lighting, adjusting camera settings for the perfect shot, and learning what to look for when purchasing a camera. Mr. Eagles, a passionate photographer with years of experience, shares his knowledge and inspires students to see photography as both an art and a skill they can grow with practice. More than just a class, EDGE Photography gives students a real-world opportunity to apply these skills, preparing them for potential careers in photography or creative media.

The best part of EDGE Photography? Students are the photographers! They’ll be snapping photos and taking part in the post-production process, helping to edit and prepare images for families to purchase. FVSD families will be able to view photo proofs and order their favorites through GotPhoto, an online photo shop offering a variety of print packages and digital copies.

Last summer’s photography camp in High Level gave students their first taste of working behind the camera. A group of five students are currently working with Mr. Eagles at Gramson Centre in High Level, diving deeper into photography techniques and starting to organize portrait sessions in preparation for next year’s school photos. Interest in the program is growing, with students from other communities—including students from Northern Home Education Centre—wanting to get involved. As the program and student-run business expands, more youth will have the chance to participate, building skills and confidence while capturing memories.
