Plains Midstream Canada Scholarship Program
Plains Midstream Canada is pleased to announce that we are offering a limited number of $1,000 scholarships to students in select communities this fall. We are currently offering the scholarships to students enrolled in, or accepted to, an energy industry related program in a post-secondary institution or trades school.
We appreciate that many high school students will not qualify for the 2024 scholarship, but we would like to encourage you to share with any local students who may be enrolled in a qualifying program.
Application details are:
- Eligible candidates can apply starting now, and the application will close on November 15, 2024.
- To apply, candidates must submit a 500-word essay discussing the benefits of energy and their career aspirations in the industry.
- Recipients will be announced in early December.

Fort Vermilion School Division (FVSD) together with the Northern Alberta Development Council (NADC) have 15 bursaries available to encourage local students who have graduated from FVSD schools to return to the region upon post-secondary graduation.
Students may receive a bursary each year to a maximum of four years but must apply each year. Below is a link to the complete guidelines and application form.

This bursary is available to someone taking courses relating to library services.

The NADC Bursary Program offers return service bursaries to students, it is meant to encourage students to train for jobs that are in demand in northern Alberta.

NADC Bursary: Applications for a $7,000 bursary are due by April 30th for studies in the fall of the same calendar year.
First Nation, Metis and Inuit Bursary: Applications for a $7,000 or $11,500 bursary, depending on the type of program you are taking, are due June 1st and November 15th of the academic year it is awarded.
Medical and Dentistry Student Bursary: Applications for a $14,000 bursary are due by April 30th of each year. For information on the $28,000 option through a sponsor, please refer to the Bursary Partnership Program.
Nurse Practitioner Bursary: Applications for a $10,500 bursary are due by April 30th of each year. For information on the $21,000 option through a sponsor, please refer to the Bursary Partnership Program.
Pharmacy Student Bursary: Applications for a $7,000 bursary are due by April 30th of each year. For information on the $14,000 option through a sponsor, please refer to the Bursary Partnership Program.
Veterinary Student Bursary: Applications for a $7,000 bursary are due by April 30th of each year. For information on the $14,000 option through a sponsor, please refer to the Bursary Partnership Program.
Northern Student Teacher Bursary: This bursary currently provides teaching students in northern Alberta with $18,000 over two years. Applications for this bursary can be submitted between July 26 and October 10, 2023 for the 2023-2024 academic school year.
Bursary Partnership Program: Businesses and organizations can submit forms according to individual sponsor deadline. The deadline is November 30 of each year unless arrangements are made in writing prior to this date. The application process runs from April 1 to November 30 of each year.
Health Care Practicum: Consider a practicum location that offers you great experience and lots of variety — come to northern Alberta! Alberta Health Services offers a wide range of settings and experiences and with NADC, are offering the funding to help make it happen. Practicum for the 2023-2024 Health Care Practicum Funding Program must be completed between April 1, 2023 and March 31, 2024. Applications are due by February 15, 2024.
Value: $2,000
Storwell is offering an annual bursary of $2,000 in support of foster children to help them attend post-secondary schools and to offer a hand up as they make their way forward in life.
The award is non-renewable, but candidates are welcome to apply for it once a year. The successful candidate is an active member of their community, has excellent grades and displays financial need.
Eligibility:
- Applicant must have been a foster child with an official Canadian foster care program and agrees to having the above organization verify the same. Youth who were involved in kinship care or other alternative living situations can also receive consideration for this award.
- Youth who were part of the Children's Aid Society (CAS) agency or similar program will also be eligible to apply for this award.
- Applicant will be enrolled as a full-time student at a recognized post-secondary institution in Canada by the start of the next school semester.
- Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Applicant must be 24 years of age or less at the time of application

These bursaries are open to all students registered in the Fort Vermilion School Division continuing their education at an accredited tertiary institution such as a university or college.
Preference will be given to the following:
- Students who work for Tolko Industries Ltd.
- Children of employees who work for Tolko Industries Ltd.
- Students pursuing education in forestry or related studies, trades or technical training, sciences, or business studies
- Students with plans to return to the area on completion of their studies

Several post-secondary institutions provide resources and supports for Indigenous students, including financial assistance. Potential sources of funding may also include student loans and grants, band funding, and scholarships and bursaries.
Rupertsland Institute (RLI) provides post-secondary financial aid to Métis students to reduce the overall cost of education and the financial burden it can have. RLI Post-Secondary Education (PSE) program funding will be available to eligible applicants on a first come, first serve basis with priority given to existing RLI clients.
